MFD Responds to House Fire

Department: Fire Department
Date: 11/13/17

For Immediate Release

On November 10th at 9:09 pm, the Marshalltown Fire Department responded with Marshalltown Police Department (MPD) and Unity Point EMS to 411 W. Linn Street on a reported structure fire. On arrival, fire crews determined all occupants were out of the building and encountered heavy smoke coming from the residence. One of the occupants told fire personnel that the fire was located in the basement. Crews attempted to enter the building but were hampered by hoarding conditions. The same conditions existed around the structure, which further limited firefighter access. Fire personnel were pulled from the structure and began a defensive attack. After several hours of trying unsuccessfully to extinguish the fire a decision was made to bring in heavy equipment in order to gain access and expose areas of the building that were not accessible. As building walls were brought down, firefighters were able to extinguish deep-seated fires throughout the structure. No one was injured during the incident and the structure is a total loss. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
