Marshalltown Fire Responds to Residential Structure Fire

The Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 1609 East Nevada Street on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 11:16 P.M. for a reported basement fire. One engine, one ladder, one chief officer, and 6 firefighters responded within 2 minutes of receiving the call. Fire crews arrived to find a working fire in the basement of the residence in which they brought under control in approximately 10 minutes of arrival. Marshalltown Police, Unity Point - Marshalltown Paramedics, and Alliant Energy (gas and electric) assisted at the scene. Occupants of the residence were alerted to the fire by the working smoke detectors located in the basement of the home. Both of the occupants, who were home at the time of the incident, escaped without injury. No fire department personnel were injured during fire suppression operations. Property loss is estimated at $10,000. Marshalltown Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the area of an electrical panel in the basement, and was caused by a malfunctioning electrical panel.
