Department: Fire Department
Date: 01/05/17

On January 5, 2017 at 6:34 am the Marshalltown Fire Department, along with the Marshalltown Police Department and Central Iowa Healthcare EMS, responded to 306 Thunderbird Drive on a reported house fire. A passerby noticed the fire, called 9-1-1 and alerted the residents of the home. Everyone was reported out of the structure and accounted for on fire department arrival. Crews observed fire coming from the roof on the west side of the structure. No fire or smoke was visible on the first floor, with fire being found and contained to the attic space. Extensive overhaul was required to remove portions of the ceiling and smoldering insulation from the attic. Investigation determined the cause to be a faulty fireplace flue pipe. No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $20,000.
