MFD Responds to Main St. Structure Fire

On February 7, 2012 at 11:07 The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a call for a fire in the alley at 135 West Main Street. Upon arrival found fire in the alley on the Southwest exterior of the 3 story building. There was smoke coming from the rear 1st floor of the building. Firefighters entered the ground floor and attempted to extinguish the fire. The fire had extended to the 2nd and 3rd floors and firefighters then used aerial ladder truck to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the building of origin and it was a total loss.  There was smoke and water damage to the adjacent building.   There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.Marshalltown Fire Department was assisted by Marshalltown Police Department, Marshalltown Area Paramedic Service, Toledo, Albion, Haverhill Fire Departments and Red Cross.   Fire crews are still on scene as of 9:30, February 9.  The public is asked to stay away from the area due to possible collapse.   East Main Street continues to be closed at this time.  The fire remains under investigation by the Marshalltown Fire Department, Marshalltown Police Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office.     If anyone has information regarding the fire please contact the fire department at 754-5751, police department at 754-5725 or  the Arson Hotline at 1-800-532-1459.
